We are by the Church and for the Church

Alpha began at a church called Holy Trinity Brompton (HTB) in London in 1977. It was repositioned by Nicky Gumbel in 1990 as a course for those outside the congregation. The number of people attending Alpha at HTB grew quickly into the hundreds and attracted the attention of other churches across denominations seeking an effective evangelisation tool.

Now, all over the world, millions of people have tried Alpha, and it has been translated into 112 different languages. The Alpha talks have been repackaged for today’s audience in the Alpha Film Series and the Alpha Youth Series – created to reach a younger generation with the Gospel. Even as times have changed, the Alpha course has continued to be used by the church as an effective tool to reach the lost with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

The Story of Alpha in Africa

We believe that every person, in every corner of the continent, deserves the opportunity to explore faith, ask questions, and encounter the person of Jesus.

The story of Alpha in Africa is the visual expression of this mission that captures how the invitation to “come and see” transcends borders and finds unique expression within the vibrant cultures and communities of Sub-Saharan Africa.

It is a story of hope, an appreciation of diversity, and a testament to what God is doing through His Church in Africa. Every voice adds depth to the story, and every story reminds us of the bigger picture: that Alpha is a tool God is using for the transformation of society across the continent.
